Dining Halls

"One of the greatest Notre Dame traditions is the dining hall. Our menus change daily, but you will always find dishes from around the world as well as traditional American favorites. Students participating in a meal plan may dine at either North or South Dining Hall."

North Dining Hall

According to campus tour information: "Built in 1957, the second of Notre Dame’s student dining halls was the final building constructed on North Quad. Serving the students of the northeast section of campus, North Dining Hall offers the same variety of food as South Dining Hall but in a contemporary setting. On any given day, some 100 different entrées (with at least as many extras for customization) are available, plus more than 20 types of beverages."

South Dining Hall

According to campus tour information: "[As] one of two student dining facilities on campus, South Dining Hall opened in 1927. As one of the finest examples of Gothic design in the United States, its architecture is reminiscent of a medieval Guild Hall. Today’s students find it reminiscent of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, so Notre Dame Food Services hosted the first-ever Harry Potter-themed dinner here in 2009.

In the early days, students dressed in coat and tie and dined family style. Modern kitchen facilities and a new food court design blend with the building’s original murals, stone fire places and oak tables and chairs. This distinctive building actually has a few places for dining, including the food market with made-to-order selections, hospitality rooms for special events, and the Reckers 24-hour café featuring pizza and smoothies."
